Kristen Bell Says Her Two Daughters Understand ‘Daddy Is an Addict’: Nothing Is ‘Off the Table’

Kristen Bell believes in maintaining an open line of communication with her daughters.

Kristen Anne Bell (born 1980) is a singer and actress from the United States. She was born and raised in Huntington Woods, Michigan, and is the daughter of nurse Lorelei (Frygier) and television news director Tom Bell. Her mother is Polish, and her ancestors are German, English, Irish, and Scottish (father).

Kristen Bell discovered her talent for entertainment at a young age. She went to her first audition in 1992 and was cast in Raggedy Ann and Andy. Bell’s mother signed her up with an agent before she was 13 years old, and she was cast in newspaper ads and television commercials. She also began private acting lessons at this time. Bell had an uncredited role in the 1998 film Polish Wedding.

The Frozen star, 42, appeared on REAL SIMPLE’s first-ever celebrity cover and discussed why she believes total honesty with her children is one of her parenting keys.

“I despise the word “taboo.” I believe it should be removed from the dictionary “She tells the publication. “There should be no topic off the table for people to discuss.”
Conversations she and husband Dax Shepard have with their daughters Delta, 8, and Lincoln, 912 may be “shocking” to some, but they make sense for her parenting style.

“I know it’s shocking, but I talk to my kids about drugs, and how their daddy is an addict in recovery, and we talk about sex,” she says. “There are all these ‘hard topics’ that don’t have to be if you show your vulnerability and give the person on the other end a little credit.”

Kristen Bell Reveals Hilarious Reason Why Her Daughters Called Her a ‘Huge Disappointment’
Later, the actress from The Good Place explains why some of the rules she and her Armchair Expert co-host, 48, have for their family are about teaching life skills.

“In our family, making amends and apologising is important because humans leave carnage wherever they go,” Bell says. “I appreciate it when someone apologises for doing something wrong or hurtful. ‘Yeah, right on.’ That’s significant.”

“If there’s one thing I want to teach my kids, it’s how to make amends — and that it’s for themselves, so they can like who they see in the mirror a little bit more,” Kristen Bell continues.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE about Hello Bello’s first ever State of Parenthood report — a family goods company the two co-founded to bring better parenting experiences to all — the mom of two mentioned how much she enjoys the “comedic surprises” her daughters provide.

“It’s like living in a Jim Carrey movie,” she laughed. “Yesterday, I had to say out loud, ‘Could you please stop using my toothbrush to wash your legs?’ I said that. I never thought I would utter that sentence, but here we are.”

“The fact that I know there are other people out there who understand why I had to say that and why it was a perfectly legal sentence. I’m not sure why, but it makes me feel a little more at ease.”

Shepard observed that the girls are “increasingly not parroting what they heard.”

“They’re coming up with new ideas and thoughts. So there are two more interesting people in the house who are processing the world in a different way than we are, and they can communicate it now. It’s also a lot of fun to have more perspectives. They’re starting to feel more like bros to me.”

Kristen Bell is best known for what?

At the age of 24, Kristen Bell won the title role in Veronica Mars (2004), which premiered in the fall of 2004 and was created by Rob Thomas. Bell played a seventeen-year-old detective alongside Enrico Colantoni as her father, Percy Daggs III, Jason Dohring, and Ryan Hansen.
